Led Light Bulbs Ever since the light bulb was invented and the candle and lantern was left behind in the dark, people have been looking for new and more effective ways to make light. Not just effective as in making a lot of light, but effective as in energy efficient and longer lasting. The global concern over the use of energy has made a lot of people aware that many of the lights we use today may not be as energy effective as we though they were. While there are many different inventions coming out as time goes by, the LED light bulbs that have been around in some form for some times are starting to shine. A light-emitting diode or LED is a diode that works with a semiconductor. It emits an incoherent narrow-spectrum light when placed in a common LED circuit. The light made by LED light bulbs are a form of electroluminescence. Unlike normal luminescence found in the normal light bulb, electroluminescence does not generate any heat making it a very effective and energy efficient way of producing light. LED lights and LED light bulbs have been used for a long time in various parts of life. Probably the one part where they are most well known is in electronics where they are often the lights that indicate that the machine is turned on. They are also sometimes used a decorative lights or on signboards. They can be used in conjunction with neon lights to create special moving effects and other effects that are not possible with just normal neon lights. There are even experiments where LED lights are being used to grow plants and vegetables in an absence of any sunlight. There are many advantages to using LED lights over standard lights. The advantages of LED light bulbs and the other LED lights in the family are numerous. They produce more light per watt than usual bulbs making them useful in battery operated devices. They can emit light of nearly any color without the use of filters or other methods making them much more cost effective. They cannot be easily broken by falling or other damage. They reach their full brightness quickly and unlike other bulbs do not just burn out but start dimming slowly over time while still producing some measure of light. They can also come in all shapes and sizes from tiny little lights on circuit boards to larger lights that can be use for more general purposes. In addition they can be combines together to create focused light when necessary. LED light bulbs are one of the many inventions that people have come up with as an alternative to the light bulb that has been around for nearly a century or more. There are other sources of light that are also competing with the LED's and they each have their advantages and disadvantages. But whether they are needed to light up a circuit board, to make a neon figure's arm move, or simply to create a little more light in a room; LED light bulbs can do the job quite effectively. |
